Gary S. Lesser seeks to represent Florida’s 100,000 lawyers

West Palm Beach – West Palm Beach attorney Gary S. Lesser announced his candidacy for Florida Bar President-Elect after qualifying with over 1,200 signed petitions in support from lawyers statewide. Lesser has served in leadership roles with the Florida Bar for more than 20 years. He is seeking to represent the almost 100,000 members of the Florida Bar for one year as President-Elect, to be followed by one year as Bar President.

“Like other Florida businesses, working lawyers face extraordinary challenges adapting and recovering from COVID-19’s economic impact,” said Lesser, Managing Partner of Lesser Lesser Landy and Smith, PLLC. “The Florida Bar must take an active and deliberate role to support the mental health, professional and technological needs of our lawyers.”

Lesser’s expertise in policy make him the leader lawyers need right now thanks to his decades of service on local and statewide leadership roles. Lesser has chaired multiple Florida Bar committees on the Board of Governors in his tenth year, with five years on the Executive Committee and three different terms as Legislation Chair.

His platform is strategically member focused with ideas to help lawyers in their everyday practice through the free resources available from the Florida Bar. Additional tenets of his platform are to further equal opportunities in the legal profession, protecting the judicial branch, maintaining ethical and professional vigilance, safeguarding a unified bar and increasing access to justice for all Floridians.

The Florida Bar is an arm of the Florida Supreme Court and assists the Court in regulating the legal profession. It is overseen by its 52-member Board of Governors. Lesser is running for the office of President-Elect for a term that begins June 12, 2021. Once elected, Lesser will become President for the term 2022-2023. Elections are held in March.

Locally, Gary Lesser has served on the boards of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County, the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County and the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches. He’s received multiple awards including Palm Beach County Bar Association’s 6th Annual Judge Edward Rodgers Diversity Award and the Anti-Defamation League’s 2015 Jurisprudence Palm Beach Award. He is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, the South Palm Beach County Chapter of FAWL, the Florida Association for Women Lawyers Palm Beach County, the South Palm Beach County Bar Association and the Broward County Bar Association.
